01 — Teach & Learn
Share your craft. Absorb theirs.
Community Lab is a two-month immersion where we come together to teach, learn, and grow. Bodywork Camp is themed around teaching and sharing the practices of massage and bodywork. Bring your modality or simply absorb — either way there's a place for you.
Our Learning Time
We will have 3 weeks of camp focus time…
where 3 of us from the camp, will be teaching the rest of us bodywork in some form. Beyond this, for the rest of the 2 month container, there will be many opportunities for all of us to teach and share whatever is exciting for us with the whole of community lab (this could include bodywork, but extends to any area of passion: finances, communal living, relational arts, practical skills, a book discussion, martial arts etc.)
Our Camp's Teachers
Do you have a bodywork modality that you love and want to share with others?
We have 3 teaching slots open for our camp. Each teacher will lead a four-day retreat-style bodywork course for the group. And spend the other two weeks as a student, learning alongside everyone else. All of those teaching, will be full members of our camp, participating both as teachers, students and a community member.

Our Camp's Learners
Come for the full experience of receiving. Immerse yourself in different modalities of touch, massage, and bodywork — absorbing from multiple teachers over 3 weeks. Offer your gifts to the village during "village days".

03 — Living Together
Self Governance and Group Decision Making
Beyond our bodywork immersion, part of our studies will be community research. In this camp we will explore the modality of Sociocracy as a self organizing and decision making method. We make decisions together — using a system designed for groups that want every voice to matter while still moving efficiently. By committing to our camp you agree to be an active participant in shaping our daily life together. All of our decisions will be aligned with our camp vision and aim
Our Camp Vision
To have a nurturing and expansive journey as a camp, where we empower each other, to grow and mature as practitioners and humans
Our Camp Aim
To create a camp at community lab, that explores implementing sociocratic principles and share bodywork with each other
1
1
Consent
Decisions are made when no one has a paramount objection — so the group moves forward together.
2
2
Proposals
Anyone can propose an idea to the group. Learn how to shape and pass proposals in a living system.
3
3
Rounds
When we meet, we speak in rounds — ensuring every voice is heard before decisions are made.
4
4
Circles
Small teams hold different domains — kitchen, budget, daily logistics — distributing ownership across the camp.
04 — The Experience
2 months - 6 Phases
1
Phase 1 — Build: 10 Days
Ten days to construct our campus together — the campus is a mixture of already set structures, and our own gathering tents that we'll set up during this period. We have a fairly simple setup, and we believe that these ten days will be spacious, nourishing and fun. This is where our sociocratic structure and group culture takes root.
2
Phase 2 — Bodywork Immersion: 3 Weeks
This is our main camp's learning time together. 4 days a week, we learn as a camp, and the rest of the week is village time (see phase 4).
3
Phase 3 — Midway: 4 (ish) Days
We pause as a village to hear how everyone's learnings and processes have been and to get excited for our next phase together.
4
Phase 4 — Village Time: 10 Days
During this time, we open our doors fully as a camp. We can hold weekly bodywork clinics for those who want to practice and offer, we can host workshops for neighbouring camps, and join in to shared offerings with the wider Community Lab village. We can even explore hosting a bodywork clinic in the nearby town.
5
Phase 5 — The Gathering: Weekend
A closing celebration where we can invite friends and family to join for a weekend — to witness, participate, and share in what we've built and learned together.
6
Phase 6 — Un-Build: 7 Days
Time to take down and say goodbye (for now). We deconstruct our camp and take time to celebrate, integrate and savor this powerful summer experience. This is a time for closing and harvesting.
06 — Our Shared Resources
The Budget
The budget is our group resource — the engine that nourishes us throughout this experience. To keep costs as low as we can, we will try and gather materials from within our camp's resources: whether its kitchen utensils or large gathering tents, we value resourcefulness. Anything that we as a camp can provide for each other, saves us all money and keeps unnecessary consumption, low. The camp will invest in shared infrastructure like couches, furniture, fairy lights, and other things to make our home awesome.
Sleeping
All of us will be responsible for bringing our own tent to sleep in.
Food & Land
The budget includes everything — land rental cost, our food, infrastructure and learning is included.
Organizers
The budget covers the organizers food and participation.
